The navigation of a rescue helicopter involves a combination of visual and instrument-based navigation. Pilots use visual cues to navigate, such as landmarks, roads, and bodies of water, especially in areas with good visibility. They also use instruments like GPS, radar, and radio navigation aids to determine their position and navigate accurately, especially in low visibility or challenging weather conditions. Additionally, rescue helicopters often have specialized equipment for search and rescue missions, such as infrared cameras and night vision goggles, to aid in navigation and locating individuals in distress.
